Every single desktop or notebook or server is run by an Operating System - the low-level software which communicates with the computer hardware, including peripheral devices such as a mouse and a printer, together with any apps that are present on the system. Any program input using a command line or a Graphical User Interface (GUI) is processed by sending an Application Program Interface (API) request to the Operating System. On a server, every single application runs within the parameters set by the OS as well - priority, physical memory, processing time, etcetera. This is valid for both standard website scripts and server-side software such as a media server. If a virtual server is set up on a physical one, there can be two independent Operating Systems, named guest OS and host OS, which means that you can set up a different software environment on the same machine.
Multiple OS in VPS Servers
We offer you as many as three different Linux distributions for the Operating System of our VPS servers - Debian, CentOS and Ubuntu. These are some of the most stable and reliable OSs available and we offer all three of them instead of just 1 since we realize that you might want to install some software that has specific requirements with regards to the Operating System it will run on. The latter is because each of the three Operating Systems has a vast support community behind it and there're different software programs you may install on the web server. Your OS choice will also determine exactly what hosting Control Panel can be installed on the VPS if you wish to use one and for that reason we offer several Control Panels too. Should you decide that you want a different OS, our tech support team can quickly wipe the present one and set up the one that you'd like. In addition, we offer an optional service to maintain the OS on your VPS updated weekly.
Multiple OS in Dedicated Servers
The dedicated server plans that we offer come with as many as three different Operating Systems to pick from. They are all Linux distributions - Ubuntu, CentOS and Debian, and not only do they have no license fees, but they are also considered to be among the most stable and secure OSs. We provide three different ones for the reason that each one of them is backed by a separate community. The packages that you could add on your hosting server are different and this may matter in case you need to install some piece of software with specific requirements regarding the hosting environment. In this light, the web hosting Control Panel which you can select for the dedicated server also depends on the OS that you will pick. You can pick any of the three Operating Systems throughout the order process, however if needed, we can always set up the server anew with a different one upon your request. As an optional service that you can add to the plan any time, we can update your OS regularly in order to keep it as secure as possible.
